Vera J.
Mitchell
Sep 9, 1941 — Oct 21, 2026
BRUCETON MILLS
Vera Juanita Mitchell, 85, passed away at her home on October 21, 2026. She was born on September 9, 1941, and grew up in Pisgah, WV, and was a proud resident of Bruceton Mills for more than 64 years. Vera is now reunited in her heavenly home with her husband, Charles Mitchell, Jr; her parents, George and Irma Walls; her sister and brother-in-law, Dale and Phyllis Gibson; and her nephew, Richard Gibson.
After graduating from Bruceton High School in 1959, she attended West Virginia Business School in Morgantown and graduated a year later. Vera started her working career at the Bruceton Bank in 1960. The Bruceton Bank was officially renamed Clear Mountain Bank in 2005, and in 2017, the Bank honored Vera with the 50 Years of Service Award. As of October 20, 2026, Vera had accomplished 65 years of service at Clear Mountain Bank and when asked if she were ever going to retire, she would just smile and leave us wondering. All who knew Vera would agree that her work ethic was unparalleled.
Vera was a member of the Bruceton United Methodist Church where she played the organ and served as treasurer for many years. She was also an active member of the Bruceton Alumni Association and helped with organizing the reunion each year.
Vera’s greatest sources of pride were her three children: Chris (Julie Martin) Mitchell of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Craig Mitchell of Bruceton Mills; and Richard (Kelly) Mitchell of Bruceton Mills; and daughter-in-law, Shelley Mitchell, of Ormond Beach, FL. Vera truly loved being a grandmother to Kelli (Justin) Reedy of Bruceton Mills, Kara (Brian) Petitto of Fairmont, and Colton Goff and Madison (Rob) Goff of Bruceton Mills, and a great grandmother to Giana and Vivia Petitto and Calvin Goff. Also surviving are her brother, Gary Walls; niece, Jessia Walls; and nephew, Derrick Walls-- all of Pisgah; nephews, Larry (Connie) Gibson of Manassas, VA, and David (Ruth) Gibson of Cheat Lake; and niece-in-law, Roxanne Gibson, of Cheat Lake.
It should also be noted that Vera dearly loved her two, four-legged companions, Sadie and Max, who were always found at her feet or on her lap.
In addition to her amazing work ethic, Vera will be remembered for her kind and generous heart that she shared with all who knew and loved her.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2026. A private service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with Pastor Tim Wotring officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to On Eagles Wings Therapeutic Riding Center of Fairmont. Donations can be sent to 371 Opekiska Ridge Rd, Fairmont, WV 26554.
