Robert H. Johnson,

better known as Big Bob, Driver Bob, or Bob, after a short illness, passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV, on February 23, 2026. The son of the late Harry and Juanita Hershman, he was born on April 9, 1939, in Morgantown.

Bob dedicated his entire adulthood to serving in many Volunteer fire departments. His longest tenure was with the Bruceton Brandonville Volunteer Fire Department (BBVD), and in January 2026, he was honored by the BBVD with his 70-year firemen’s pin. He also drove the ambulance for the Bruceton Community Ambulance Service until he was 81.

Bob never met a stranger and could be found making his rounds and visiting around town. He was never short on words and made many friends who became family throughout his life. He was always so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob had a passion for woodworking and built his grandchildren many items. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of meeting him and especially his Haines work family where he worked part-time until the time of his passing.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Edward) Kent; son, Robert (Nicky) Johnson; and his grandchildren: Danielle Jones, Celeste (Ryon) Cahill, Tiffany (Bobby) Johnson, Ian (Amber) Kent, Rachel (Cody) Stiles, Blake Johnson, and Isabella Johnson. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren: Kaileigh Johnson, Dixie and Ava Kent, Blake Arbogast, Amelia McCabe and Alice Brumfield; and his sisters, Bonnie Collins and Roberta Gaspar.

He was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Lynn Johnson, who is now celebrating at being reunited with him, and his sister, Barbra Myers.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
