Obituary

Louella "Fern" Spiker Strawser, 83, graduated to heaven on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the WV Caring Hospice Facility in Elkins, WV after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's. Fern was born in her childhood home on January 13, 1940 to the late Cledis (Tim) and Omeda Christopher. Fern grew up in Valley Point and graduated from Kingwood High School in 1957. Fern was married to Robert Spiker for 56 years until the time of his death in June 2015. She was employed as a secretary at Kingwood High School and the Preston County Clerk's Office. Fern was a tremendous woman of faith and a life-long member of the Kingwood Church of the Nazarene serving on various committees, as a member of the choir or doing whatever was needed to advance the work of the Lord. She also volunteered as a Preston County poll worker. In her spare time Fern loved to scrapbook, paint, do ceramics, crochet, participate in Preston County Senior Center "Wrinkle Bus" trips, and played a mean game of Chinese checkers. Her greatest love was her family and she never let a day go by without letting them know she loved them. From family dinners and buckwheat breakfasts to sporting events supporting her children and grandchildren, her world revolved around those she loved. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Strawser, daughter Lisa Peddicord (Jay), son Timothy Spiker (Debra), grandchildren Jason Peddicord (Lauren), Abby Brooks (Quincy), Allie and Landon Spiker, and great-grandchildren Mila, Holden and Everly Peddicord and Grady Brooks, sister Phyllis Savage (Bill), brothers Robert Christopher (Joy), Paul Christopher (Cora) and Dean Christopher (Lois), and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at WV Caring and the WV Caring Hospice Facility in Elkins for their compassionate care during Fern's final days. Friends will be received at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home on Monday, January 8, from 3pm to 7pm and on Tuesday, January 9 at the Kingwood Church of the Nazarene, 125 Wellsley Street, Kingwood from 1pm until the time of the service at 2pm with Pastor Michael Deligatti officiating. Internment will be at the Centenary Cemetery immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Fern's memory to the Alzheimer's Association West Virginia Chapter, P.O. Box 18485, South Charleston, WV 25303 or WV Caring, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520.
