Obituary

James Leland Burris, 91, of Bruceton Mills (Pisgah Community), WV, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, peacefully at home in his favorite chair. The son of the late Benjamin and Lula Mary Simpkins Burris, he was born December 20, 1924, in Mt. Morris, PA. For many years, he was the caretaker at Coopers Rock State Forest where he enjoyed making many "Smokie the Bear" type signs for the park. He enjoyed the outside, hunting and fishing and taking his children and grandchildren on fishing trips. He is survived by his wife, Anna L. Amie Burris; a daughter and spouse, Susan and Tracy Waugh, of Bruceton Mills; a son and spouse, James and Diana Burris, of St. George, WV; a brother and spouse, George and Pat Burris, of Morgantown; grandchildren: Lisa Dumire and husband, Jay, James Burris, Jr. and wife, Lisa, and Abby Waugh; and two great grandchildren, Cody and Sara Dumire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Danny and Jackie Burris; six sisters, Kathleen Arbogast, Hazel Blaker, Edith Barbe, Inez Murphy, Ruby Helen Burris, and Almeda Margaret Burris; and three brothers, Charles, William and Benny Burris. Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, March 26, 2016, from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. service in the funeral home, with Pastors Steve Wotring and Tim Wotring officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Bruceton Mills, WV(Pisgah Community). Family request memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care Corp., PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520.
