Gregory Neil Bolyard

Gregory Neil Bolyard,

74, of Hazelton, West Virginia, passed away on March 25, 2026.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Greg spent much of his life there before eventually returning to his family’s roots in West Virginia. In the early 2000s, he purchased land in Hazelton, where he built a getaway cabin that became his full-time home and the place he loved most.

Greg built a proud and lasting career in construction after briefly attending engineering school through the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Baltimore Carpenters Union and worked his way up to become a respected construction superintendent. His work can be seen across the region, including contributions to notable projects such as the National Aquarium and the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. He took great pride in building things that would stand the test of time.

He was a loyal friend, always willing to lend a hand and never one to turn away from helping others. Greg had many interests throughout his life, but in recent years he found a true passion in knife making, becoming a skilled craftsman and continuing to create right up until his passing.

Greg also embraced his Native American heritage as a member of the Blackfoot Cherokee Indian tribe through his great-grandmother’s bloodline. He went on to become a trained priest within the local tribe, and he carried this role with pride and respect.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Sandra Bolyard; his sister, Sheila Mercado; his children: Theresa (Glenn) Sterling, Justin (Laura) Hagan, and Matt (Lisa) Bolyard; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Long. Greg leaves behind a large and cherished family, including his grandchildren: Jonathan Hively, Elizabeth Sterling, Sean Sterling, Billy Long, Thomas Long, Angel Long, Ryan Long, Luke Hagan, Molly Hagan, Olivia Bolyard, Nicholas Bolyard, and James Bolyard; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Greg will be remembered for his strength, his craftsmanship, his generosity, and his unwavering dedication to family and friends.

A celebration of life is planned for the future.

Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
