Daniel J. Updegraff, 78 of Albright, West Virginia, passed away on July 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 4,1947, in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from North Torrance High School in 1965, Daniel lived a life defined by service, dedication, unwavering faith and love of family.
A proud patriot, Daniel served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His commitment to his country carried forward into a distinguished civilian career, where he worked as an electronic test engineer at both General Dynamics and Hughes Aircraft. He was recognized for his exemplary work on the Trident nuclear submarine, as well as US tanks tracking systems. Later, he worked as a software programmer for Fiserv and various banking institutions.
Daniel was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, beloved uncle and loyal friend. He enjoyed all types of music. His love of sports included USC, WVU, LA Kings and especially YGW softball.
He was a proud member of Cornerstone Community Church in Kingwood, WV.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosalie Lawson; father, Joseph Updegraff; and brother, David Updegraff.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Updegraff; daughter in-law, Kimberly Updegraff; sister, Marie Pettibone; niece, Melissa Deal, and her children, Charli, Jordan and Liam Deal, and a nephew, Ryan Pettibone. He has three grandchildren: Wayne Owings, Nichole Carney and Daniel Luc Updegraff; and five great grandchildren: Teegan and Gotti Owings, Adalynn, Remington and Kennedy Carney.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, Friday, July 17, 2026, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service with Pastor Baker officiating.
