Obituary:	M. MAXINE DARBY, 86. of Bruceton Mills, WV, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at her home. The daughter of the late Gay and Faye Everly Falkenstine, she was born May 15, 1922, in Valley Point, WV. Maxine was a member of the Sugar Valley United Methodist Church. She loved to work in her flower gardens, and enjoyed being a homemaker, mother, and a grandmother. She is survived by two sons and their spouses: James R. Darby and Charlotte, of Culpeper, VA, and Thomas H. Darby and Susan, of Bruceton Mills; a daughter and her spouse, Jane A. Monroe and Jessie, of Bruceton Mills; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh W. Darby, a son, Warren L. Darby, a sister, Marie Falkenstine, and two brothers: James C. and Alva Gay Falkenstine, Jr. Friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, Saturday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Sunday, May 25, 2008, in the Sugar Valley United Methodist Church, Bruceton Mills, from 2 until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m., in the church, with Rev. Craig Falkenstine officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Valley Cemetery. Personal condolences may be sent on line to the family at www.spearfuneralhome.net.

So sorry to hear of Mackie's passing... I loved to visit with her when she was at Grandma's house (Luella Liston). I remember her pretty beaded hair nets and awesome ginger cookies. To this day, I remember her each time I vacuum... she taught me to always make 6 passes with the sweeper... she said that way my floors would always be really clean (maybe that was her way of occupying the time of an energetic 8 year old!). The month of May is upon us and I can not stop thinking about my grandma. I can see her out in her flower beds working away. This month on the 15th is her birthday and it has been one year on May 22 since she left us. The void inside is still there, it stills hurts to think that I can not call her and hear her voice. We are left with only our memories and pictures of this truely remarkable woman. I am blessed to have called her my grandmother. I know that she is watching over me and someday I will join her.
